Your adventure begins at Kigali International Airport, where you will meet your professional safari guide. Before traveling north, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial for an important introduction to Rwanda’s history and the country’s journey of remembrance and recovery. Continue through Rwanda’s rolling countryside toward Ruhengeri, also known as Musanze, near Volcanoes National Park. The impressive Virunga Mountains dominate the landscape as you approach the park.
The main highlight of your Rwanda Safari Package comes on the second day with mountain gorilla trekking. After an early briefing at the park headquarters, follow professional guides and trackers into the forest in search of an assigned gorilla family. Trekking time varies depending on where the gorillas are located. Once found, you will enjoy the permitted viewing period while watching them feed, rest, groom, and interact in their natural environment.
Your final morning brings another exciting primate experience as you return to the forest for golden monkey tracking. These active and colorful primates are commonly found around the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains and provide a very different experience from gorilla trekking.
After completing the trek, return to Kigali for your onward journey. Your Rwanda Safari Package begins when you arrive at Kigali International Airport. After completing immigration and collecting your luggage, meet your professional safari guide for a warm welcome to Rwanda.
Depending on your arrival time, begin with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The memorial provides an important understanding of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi while also sharing stories of remembrance, recovery, and reconciliation.
After your visit, leave Kigali and begin the scenic journey north toward Ruhengeri and Volcanoes National Park. Stop for lunch along the way while enjoying views of Rwanda's famous rolling hills, small towns, farms, and local communities.
As you approach Musanze, the landscape becomes increasingly mountainous. On a clear day, you can enjoy impressive views of the Virunga volcanoes rising above the surrounding countryside.
Arrive at your hotel, check in, and spend the evening relaxing. Your guide will explain the following morning's gorilla trekking schedule and help you prepare for the forest adventure.

Wake early and enjoy breakfast before transferring to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi. Here, park officials will provide a detailed briefing about gorilla trekking rules, forest conditions, safety, and responsible behavior around the mountain gorillas.
You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and enter the forest with trained guides and trackers.
The trek can take several hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Some trails can be steep, muddy, or slippery, so comfortable hiking shoes, long trousers, drinking water, and suitable rain protection are recommended.
Once your gorilla family is located, enjoy the permitted viewing period from a controlled distance. Watch the silverback, females, juveniles, and young gorillas as they feed, rest, groom, and communicate.
After this memorable experience, trek back to the starting point and return to your hotel for lunch.
In the afternoon, you may choose an optional cultural visit to experience traditional Rwandan music, dance, stories, and everyday community life.

Enjoy an early breakfast before returning to Kinigi for your second primate adventure. After registration, meet the park guides for a briefing about golden monkey tracking.
Enter the forest and begin searching for these beautiful primates. Golden monkeys are known for their bright golden-orange coloring, playful nature, and fast movements through the bamboo vegetation.
The experience is different from mountain gorilla trekking because golden monkeys are highly active. You may watch them jump between bamboo stems, search for food, interact with other members of their group, and move through the forest.
Once the monkeys are located, you will have the permitted viewing time to observe and photograph them while following instructions from your guide.
After completing the trek, leave the Volcanoes region and begin your scenic journey back to Kigali.
Depending on your departure arrangements, your driver-guide will drop you at Kigali International Airport or your chosen hotel in the city.
