This 5-day Kenya Midrange Safari takes you through three of southern Kenya’s most exciting wildlife destinations: Amboseli National Park, Tsavo West National Park, and Tsavo East National Park. The safari begins in Nairobi and travels south to Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s best destinations for elephant viewing. Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. On clear days, the mountain provides an impressive backdrop as elephants, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffaloes, and other wildlife move across the open plains. The park also features wetlands, acacia woodland, grasslands, and a dry lakebed, creating a variety of habitats for wildlife and birds.
From Amboseli, your Kenya Midrange Safari continues to Tsavo West National Park. Known for its volcanic landscapes, natural springs, rocky hills, and beautiful sunsets, Tsavo West offers a very different experience from Amboseli. You will explore areas around Mzima Springs, where clear underground water creates pools that attract hippos, crocodiles, fish, and birds. The final destination is Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s largest protected areas. Tsavo East is famous for its vast open landscapes and red-colored elephants, which often cover themselves in the park’s distinctive red soil. The park also offers opportunities to see lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and many bird species. Natural attractions such as the Galana River, Lugard Falls, and the Yatta Plateau add variety to the safari.

Your Kenya Midrange Safari begins early in Nairobi, where you will meet your professional driver-guide and board your private 4x4 safari vehicle. After a short briefing, you will leave the city and travel south toward Amboseli National Park.
The drive gives you a chance to see the changing face of Kenya. As you leave Nairobi behind, the busy city environment gives way to open countryside, farms, villages, and traditional Maasai communities. Along the route, you may see local people tending cattle, small businesses along the roadside, and wide views of the Kenyan landscape.
As you approach Amboseli, the landscape becomes increasingly open and dry. On clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro begins to appear in the distance. At 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest mountain and provides one of the most spectacular backgrounds for wildlife photography in Amboseli.
Upon arrival at the park, you will proceed to Ol Tukai Lodge for check-in and lunch. After some time to relax, you will head out for your first afternoon game drive.
Amboseli is particularly famous for its elephants, and you may soon encounter large herds moving across the plains or around the park's wetland areas. Other wildlife may include lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, warthogs, hyenas, and different antelope species.
The park is also home to a wide variety of birds, making it a rewarding destination for bird lovers. As the afternoon progresses, the soft light creates excellent conditions for photography.
Where weather conditions are favorable, you may enjoy beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro during the late afternoon. You will then return to Ol Tukai Lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Today is dedicated to exploring Amboseli National Park. You will wake up early for a morning game drive, giving you the opportunity to experience the park when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is often active.
The early morning is also one of the best times to photograph Mount Kilimanjaro. If the skies are clear, the mountain may appear above the plains while elephants and other wildlife move through the landscape.
Your guide will take you through different habitats in search of wildlife. The park's wetlands are particularly important because they provide water and food for many animals. Large elephant herds may be seen feeding around these areas, while hippos and water birds can sometimes be found close to the water.
You may encounter lions resting in the grass, cheetahs moving across the plains, buffaloes grazing in groups, and zebras and wildebeest feeding alongside other herbivores. Giraffes, warthogs, hyenas, and antelopes may also be spotted during the drive.
Depending on the day's plan, you can enjoy a picnic or bush breakfast in a suitable location, allowing you to spend more time in the park. Alternatively, you can return to Ol Tukai Lodge around midday for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, continue with another game drive. A visit to Observation Hill may be included where access and timing permit. From this elevated viewpoint, you can enjoy broad views across the Amboseli plains, wetlands, and surrounding landscape.
An optional Maasai village visit can also be arranged for travelers interested in learning about local culture and traditions.
As evening approaches, return to the lodge after enjoying the changing colors of the African sunset.

After breakfast, you will leave Amboseli and travel toward Tsavo West National Park. The journey takes you from the open plains and wetlands of Amboseli into the more rugged and volcanic landscapes of Tsavo.
Tsavo West is known for its hills, lava formations, woodland, grassland, and natural springs. The change in scenery makes this an exciting part of your Kenya Midrange Safari.
One of the major attractions is Mzima Springs. Fed by underground water originating from the surrounding volcanic landscape, the springs form clear pools surrounded by vegetation. The area attracts hippos, crocodiles, fish, and many birds. Where available and operating, visitors may also use the underwater viewing facility to observe aquatic life below the surface.
You will continue exploring the park on a game drive. Tsavo West is home to elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and numerous bird species. With patience and a knowledgeable guide, you may encounter wildlife in different parts of the park.
You will proceed to Severin Safari Camp for check-in and lunch. The camp provides a comfortable base surrounded by the natural environment of Tsavo West.
In the afternoon, continue exploring the park. Depending on park conditions and the day's route, you may visit the Shetani Lava Flow, a striking volcanic formation made up of dark lava rocks. The area provides an excellent contrast to the green vegetation found around Mzima Springs.
You may also stop at a suitable viewpoint to appreciate Tsavo West's rugged landscape. As the sun begins to set, the volcanic hills and open plains take on warm colors.
After the game drive, return to Severin Safari Camp for dinner and overnight accommodation.

After breakfast, you will leave Tsavo West and continue toward Tsavo East National Park. The two parks offer very different landscapes, making today's journey an important part of your safari experience.
Tsavo East is famous for its enormous size, open wilderness, and distinctive red soil. The park is particularly known for its elephants, which often cover themselves in the red dust during dust baths. This gives them the famous reddish appearance associated with Tsavo.
After entering Tsavo East, you will begin exploring the park on a game drive. The open landscapes provide opportunities to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, antelopes, lions, and other wildlife. Leopards and cheetahs are also present, although sightings are never guaranteed.
You will continue toward Ashnil Aruba Lodge, located near a waterhole that attracts wildlife. After check-in and lunch, you can relax for a while before the afternoon game drive.
The lodge's location can provide additional opportunities to observe animals coming to drink, depending on the season and water availability.
Later, head out to explore more of Tsavo East. You may visit areas around the Galana River and other scenic locations depending on the day's route. Lugard Falls, where the Galana River flows over sculpted rocks, is another important natural attraction where conditions and park access permit.
The park is also home to the Yatta Plateau, a remarkable geological feature formed by ancient lava flows.
As evening approaches, enjoy the beautiful sunset over the red earth and open plains before returning to Ashnil Aruba Lodge.
Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at the lodge.

Your final day begins with an early morning game drive in Tsavo East. This is your last opportunity to explore the park before leaving the wilderness and returning to Nairobi.
The morning hours can be rewarding for wildlife viewing, as animals are often active before the temperatures rise. Your guide will select a suitable route based on recent wildlife activity and the time available.
You may encounter elephants moving across the red soil, giraffes feeding near trees, zebras and wildebeest grazing on the plains, or buffaloes gathering in herds. With good fortune, you may also spot lions or other predators.
After the game drive, return to Ashnil Aruba Lodge for breakfast and check-out. You will then begin your journey toward Nairobi.
The road trip offers another opportunity to see rural Kenya, with villages, farms, roadside markets, and local communities appearing along the route. Lunch can be arranged en route depending on your final travel schedule.
The drive to Nairobi takes several hours by road. Travelers who prefer a faster and more comfortable return may also arrange an optional train connection from Voi, subject to the train schedule and availability.
On arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, depending on your onward travel arrangements.
Your 5-day Kenya Midrange Safari comes to an end with memories of Amboseli's elephants and Mount Kilimanjaro, the volcanic scenery of Tsavo West, and the red elephants and vast wilderness of Tsavo East.
